Daniel A. Giovannangelo Jr.

Daniel A. Giovannangelo Jr., 65, of Rotterdam, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016. Dan was born in Niskayuna, NY and graduated from Mohonasen High School in 1968. He was a member of a Sectional winning soccer team there and also played for the Niagara University soccer team. Following graduation from Niagara in 1972, Dan began his career teaching at Albany Equal Opportunity Center, and also taught at the College of Saint Rose and Maria College. He then began working for the NYS Department of Health, retiring with over 30 years of service. Dan was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He was an avid golfer and a member of Oakridge Golf League at Schenectady Municipal Golf Course for many years. He was also a member of the Bayberry Hills and Bass River Golf Courses on Cape Cod. Dan enjoyed his home on Cape Cod and rooting for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Dan enjoyed all New York sports teams as well. He was a devoted supporter of his children's, nieces and nephews sporting activities. Dan was predeceased by his father, Daniel A. Giovannangelo, who died in 2000. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Christine VanAmburgh Giovannangelo; two children, Lisa Giovannangelo and Daniel B. Giovannangelo, both of Rotterdam; his mother, Myrtle Giovannangelo of Rotterdam; two sisters, Linda (Bruce) Coons and Karen Biittig, both of Rotterdam; and his first grandson to be, born in October. Also survived by several brother and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Nickerson. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at DeMarco–Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday morning, from the funeral home, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady. Burial will be at St.'s Cyril & Method Cemetery. Donations may be made in Dan's name to The First Tee/Junior Golf Alliance - Schenectady, 425 S. Legacy Trail, St. Augustine, FL 32092, USA. Donations will be used to promote junior golf and provide scholarships for juniors engaged in programs at Schenectady Municipal Golf Course.
