David Arthur Snyder

David A. Snyder, 89, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Van Rensselaer Manor where he had been a resident for the past six months. Born in Amsterdam on November 16, 1933, he was the son of the late Arthur and Laura (nee: Hallenbeck) Snyder.

He was raised and educated in Amsterdam and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Dave served proudly in the United States Navy.

He was a member of the former Woodlawn Reformed Church in Schenectady and a member of the former General Electric Quarter Century Club.

He was employed by the General Electric Company for many years retiring in 1991. He was also a member of the Lisha Kill Seniors and a former volunteer at the SICM food pantry.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Tourtellot, of Colonie; his daughter Linda Betz (Keith) of Rotterdam; his stepsons, Ricky Tourtellot of Florida, and Paul Tourtellot (Kathy) of Guilderland; his granddaughter, Jenny Kearney (Chris); his step-grandson, DJ Tourtellot of Wilmington, NY; two great-grandchildren, and his brother-in-law, Ted Dick. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters, Barbara Engel of Amsterdam, and Janet Dick also of Amsterdam. The family would like to thank the third floor B wing staff at Van Rensselaer Manor for their kindness and care over the past six months.

Funeral services will be held at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, on Thursday, August 31, 2023. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at which time a funeral service will be conducted. Burial will immediately follow at Memory Gardens in Colonie.
