FRANCES M. JONES WASSERMAN

Frances M. Jones Wasserman, 86, formerly of Fuller Rd., Amsterdam, where she had previously resided with daughter and son-in-law, passed away at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, on Monday, August 16, 2010. She was born on July 8, 1924, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She was the daughter of James Albert and Elsie Hanson Saunders. She came to the United States as a young child. Mrs. Wasserman was at one time employed by R.H. Heinen Real Estate, she later worked at the Navy Depot in Scotia, and Swift Food Service in Albany. She subsequently owned and operated F.W. Meats of Clifton Park, NY, until her retirement. She was of the Protestant faith. Mrs. Wasserman was a member of the Mohawk Valley Chorus, and was a past president of the Shenendehowa Senior Center in Clifton Park where she helped to organize and worked with Babe Ruth World Series of Clifton Park. She also served as secretary of the Old Timers Softball League in Clifton Park, and was the only woman on the team. She would run the bases for the men that couldn't run. Mrs. Wasserman is survived by her devoted daughters, Linda (Carmine) Masullo of Altamont, NY and Gail (John) Przybylo of Amsterdam. She was predeceased by her daughter, Leslie Fowler, who died in 1992. She is also survived by her son-in-law, John Fowler of Schenectady; her brother, William (Elaine) Saunders of Massena, NY; grandchildren, Steven (Heather) Masullo, Stacie (Rudy) Eignor, John Fowler and Melissa (Earl) Williams; 13 great-grandchildren; nephews, Jimmy (Mary) Saunders and Scott Saunders, and one great nephew. There will be no calling hours and the funeral services will be private. Donations in memory of Mrs. Wasserman may be made to the River Ridge Living Center Activities Fund, 100 Sandy Dr., Amsterdam, NY 12010 or the Montgomery County SPCA, PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Arrangements are by the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Mrs. Wasserman's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her cardiologist, Dr. Adam Snider, and to Dr. Nancy Knudsen of Comfort Care at St. Mary's Hospital, and to Dr. Glenn Pizarro and the entire staff at River Ridge Living Center for their compassion, kindness, and the wonderful care given to their mother.
