Janet Pickney Obituary
Janet was born on January 4, 1934 in Schenectady, NY to the late James Harriman Phillips and Anna Carbone.
She attended Henry J. Ellers School and graduated from Woestina School in 1951 and went to work for General Electric Bldg. #273 as a secretary from 1951 to 1956.
Janet was married to William Pickney on January 24, 1954 that lasted for 70 years.
She is survived by her husband William, sons Dennis (June) Pickney of Rotterdam Junction and Stephen (Kandace) Pickney of Pattersonville, two granddaughters Sarah (James) Dowen and Jessica Pickney and two great-grandchildren Abagail Dowen and Kaleb Dowen.
Janet was a member of Woestina Reform Church since she was 6 years old and was involved in many functions of the church, such as being part of making the 200th Anniversary Quilt, Church Historian, J.E.M. Food Pantry, and Womens Guild President for 5 years. She also was a member of the Rotterdam Junction Fire House Womens Auxiliary.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and reading.
Funeral services will be held on August 3, 2024 at 10 a.m. at the Woestina Reform Church 1397 Main Street Rotterdam Junction, NY 12150, Pastor Kent McHeard will be Officiating. Calling hours will be held on August 2, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bekkering Ellis Funeral Home, Inc. 1 Mohawk Ave. Scotia, NY 12302.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Janet's name to Woestina Reform Church.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of Mrs Pickney. My mom was her friend and we attended the same church. I have fond memories of the whole family. Mrs Pickney was a skilled craftsperson, welcoming, caring, involved in church . When I read about her attending the same Elementary schools as I did, I had many more special memories of growing up on Gregg Road, visiting the Pickney home, going to Woestina Church. Bill and the family, My sincere condolences and love to everyone. News of Janet's passing was a shock I'll never forget. She and Bill have been our best friends forever and I'll always remember them. Our God has her in her Heavenly home where she no longer will suffer pain. Someday I'll see you there, Janet.
