John Ciervo Obituary

John J. Ciervo, Sr., 83, died Monday at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Schenectady on March 22, 1925, the son of the late Frank and Concetta (Cappello) Ciervo. Mr. Ciervo received undergraduate degrees in philosophy from St. Andrews College and in classical languages from Siena College. He earned a master's degree in theology from Christ the King Seminary at St. Bonaventure University. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1946 to 1947. From 1949 to 1963, he was employed at John R. Rudd Pontiac in Schenectady, serving as sales manager from 1957 to 1963. Mr. Ciervo's professional career was stellar, throughout which he was, and was known to be, a faithful and true lover of God and country. For it all he certainly could have claimed significant and many bragging rights, but he did not, being a man of profound humility and of a quiet, gentlemanly, always dignified manner. It was his 'old school' way that most charmed me the couple of times I was blessed to be with him. What I best remember about him, though, was something that struck me as primary in his life, his great love for family, the crowning achievement of his stellar lifetime, to be sure. So these days I pray for the consolation of Mr. Ciervo's family members and friends, especially Aunt Rose and Angela, whom I know best of all. As for Mr. Ciervo, surely now he is 'face to face' with the loving God whom he loved and served so well in this lifetime, that even now I find myself praying to him for his intercession on our behalf....
