Maria Greta Abbey

Maria Greta Abbey, 90, born in Sandgerdi, Iceland, passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2017, at her home in Bel Air, Maryland, with her family by her side. Greta graduated from a women's textile school in Blonduos, Iceland, after which she worked on the US Air Force base in Keflavik, Iceland. She later became a United States Citizen in September of 1958. While living in the states she enjoyed bowling, working at The Princess Shop in downtown Schenectady, spending time with her grandchildren and playing solitaire. She was predeceased in 1979 by her husband, Roy E. Abbey Jr. Her surviving family includes her two sons, Eirik Abbey (wife, Deborah and children, Eirika, Mark and Derik) and Mark Abbey (wife, Lisa and children, Marisa, Greggory and Marie Claire); as well as numerous relatives still in Iceland. Greta and Roy were lifelong members of the First United Methodist Church in Schenectady. A memorial service will be held there on Saturday, May 13th, 2017 at 2 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
