Richard J. Bartyzel

Richard J. Bartyzel AmsterdamRichard J. Bartyzel, 90, Highland Beach, Florida, and formerly of Amsterdam, New York, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Broadalbin, New York. Born in Lodz, Poland on September 15, 1922, he was a son of the late Albert and Maria Jozwik Bartyzel. Richard received his education in Poland. Richard retired as chairman of The Board of Bartyzel Distributors in Amsterdam, New York. He also hosted his own radio show, The Polish Hour on WCSS in Amsterdam for many years. Richard was a Polish Army veteran under the British Command and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his participation in the Battle of Grunwald. Richard was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary's Church in Amsterdam. He was also a past member of the Polish National Alliance in Amsterdam. In 1995 he attended the 50th Anniversary of Polish Liberation World War II. His wife, Mollie Morton Bartyzel to whom he was married on July 30, 1947, passed away on August 20, 1993. Richard is survived by two sons, William R. Bartyzel (Janice) and Christopher T. Bartyzel (Frances) all of Amsterdam; one daughter, Margaret Bartyzel of Broadalbin; five granddaughters, Lindsay Leigh (Paul) Consolati, Nadine (Bryan) Burr, Monika Bartyzel, Melanie Bartyzel and Heather Townsend; nine great-grandchildren, Luke and Colby Consolati, Cayden, Vada, and Tyler Burr, Nia, Soulana, Heaven and Ever Bartyzel. Nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 11:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, New York, followed at 12 noon by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, New York. Friends are invited to call at the Riley Mortuary from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral services.
