ROBERT SPAULDING Obituary

Robert E. Spaulding, 86, of Rotterdam, died Monday, December 14, 2009, at Ellis Hospital after a short illness. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Minton and Flossie (Boyce) Spaulding. He was educated in Cobleskill. Robert served in the Army during WWII and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for being wounded in Normandy. He was employed as a driver for the Town of Rotterdam Highway Department. Prior to that, he was employed as a car detailer for Colonie Motors and a tow truck driver for Webster Motors. Robert, a member of the VFW Hilderbrand Davis Post, the DAV of Rotterdam, and the Purple Heart Club. He was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth Spaulding and Donald Spaulding. Robert is survived by his wife, Loretta Dupont Spaulding, whom he married December 15, 1945; five children, Robert Spaulding (Michelle) of Arizona, Phyllis Hoyt (Robert) of Amsterdam, Alan Spaulding (Christine) of New Hampshire, Nancy Havener (Claude) of Schenectady and Gary Spaulding (Nancy) of Schenectady; one brother, Frederick M. Spaulding of Esperance; also survived by ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday at 12 noon at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be Friday morning at 10 to 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Schenectady Memorial Park in Rotterdam. www.bondfuneralhome.com.
