CARL TEUTSCH Obituary

Carl M. Teutsch Jr. formerly of Palatine Carl M. Teutsch Jr., 83, of Pompano Beach, Fla., and a previous resident of Palatine, Ill., passed away suddenly but peacefully, and lovingly surrounded by his family on April 23, 2012. Carl was born April 6, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., to an architect, Carl M. Teutsch and his wife, Bertha (nee Spahr). After graduating from Arlington Heights High School in 1947, Carl went on to Florida Southern College, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity (chapter president in 1951) and earned his B.S. degree in 1952. Carl served proudly in the Army during the Korean War, and upon his return became a prominent member of numerous Palatine civic organizations. Professionally, as president of the architectural firm Teutsch & Associates, he was instrumental in the design and development of many Northwest Suburban landmarks such as the 1st Presbyterian Church of Palatine and the Littelfuse and Weber Marking Systems buildings. Carl was also an avid photographer and his interest in art and architecture took him all over the globe. His extensive travels earned him recognition as a member of the Travelers' Century Club for having visited more than 100 countries around the world. When he retired and moved to Florida permanently in 1986, Carl became active in the Light House Point and Fort Lauderdale communities and numerous charitable organizations involving mentoring and the performing arts. He also was a dedicated tennis player; he played three times a week for over 25 years in Florida and spent his summers in Illinois playing every available day at the Inverness Golf Club (member for over 50 years) with his family. Above all, Carl was devoted to his children and grandchildren; compassionate and supportive through their challenges and enormously proud of their successes. He will be immeasurably missed by all who knew him. Carl is survived by his brother, Robert (Ruth) Teutsch of Ocean Hills, Calif.; his children, Lorii Hampton (Jack Olichwier) of Arlington Heights, Ill. and Carl M. (Gina) Teutsch III of Palatine, Ill.; his grandchildren, Taryn and Teague Hampton; his nieces and nephews; and other loving family and countless friends. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ruth Hoggarth; and his son, Scott M. Teutsch. Memorial visitation will be held from 3 until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 18, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to the Jenny Anzalone Scholarship Fund, c/o Rolling Meadows (Ill.) High School or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
