Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Chrysanthi Sakolari surrounded by her family, drifted into eternal rest peacefully late Wednesday, October 25, 2017 after battling cancer for 13 years. She was born on March 25, 1937 on the beautiful island of Crete , Greece, she knew what it meant to work hard and live a humble life. She was the youngest daughter to the late Emmanuel and Argiou Georgoulakis and sister to Aristea (Siglotis) Andranikakis, and Damaskinos (Petros) Fournarakis. She spent most of her early years on the island, and in 1958 immigrated to the United States where she met her one and only true love, Gani, together they had four children and lived a full life with family being the center of it. She became a proud citizen of the United States and resided in the Elgin where she raised a beautiful family. Her family had been the proud owners of Elgin Restaurant and Lounge in downtown Elgin for 40 years where she had met many wonderful people. She was grateful to the City of Elgin for the support she received as a small business owner and contributes the success to her children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gani, and is survived by her loving family: Hasi (Kevin Smith), Maria (Brian Fuller), Petritt (Michelle), and Raman (Lisa), fourteen grandchildren; Jordan (Anastasia) , Krystin, Daisy, Adam (Angie), Adrianna, Alexandra, Patrick, Antonia, Neil, Aristea, Nicholas, Andreios, Angela, Sach, and four great-grandchildren; Dale, Alexander, Christian, and Elisabeth. Yiayia has touched the hearts of so many people who will always remember her fondly. The visitation is at 10:00 a.m. until her service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, Elgin, IL. Private burial will immediately be followed at Glen Oak Cemetery, West Chicago. In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the Building Fund of St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church in Memory of Chrysanthi Sakolari. It's four in the morning,I'm wide awake thinking of you. Missing you!

We had your forty day memorial service on December 3rd. All your children were there.
It was a beautiful service, tears of sorrow fell from my eyes.

Daisy Adam Alexander Christian Elisabeth and myself all received communion. I know you would be proud.

From heaven above I know you were smiling and rejoicing.

Hey Great Yiayia,

I was in my apartment the other day and made some rice, potatoes and a salad and I thought of all the simple, yet so filling meals we shared together. I'll miss you but I know you're always with me.

Agapimeni mou mana,

In the early morning of October 25th, I sat in a chair at the foot of your bed - next to me sat Adrianna. Standing at your bedside was Michelle.

I was staring out the window and saw a Cardinal at the the ring of the tree.

I whispered to Adrianna - look a Cardinal do you see it? (as if the small creature could hear me) I didn't want it to fly away!

At first glance Adrianna said no, then she
saw the Cardinal.

I said to Adrianna today would be yiayia's day
to leave.

"A CARDINAL IS A VISITOR FROM HEAVEN"
