EILEEN JANE DEVITT

ROLLING MEADOWS - Eileen Jane Devitt, 95, a St. Colette Communicant and a 57 year resident of Rolling Meadows, passed away peacefully, Tuesday July 1st, 2014, at Good Shepherd Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Chester and Nellie Atherton (Lewis) and sister of the late William. Eileen grew up on the NW side of Chicago, attended St. Bartholomew Parish School, and was a proud graduate of Siena High School, Class of 1938. Eileen married the love other life, Thomas J. Devitt in 1940, a marriage that would last 68 years, until Tom's passing in 2008. Eileen had a keen ear for music and could play piano and the organ with gusto. Name a tune and she'd play the song. She was a woman of great faith and simple wisdom. She was a peacemaker, a storyteller, and an artist. Eileen leaves two children, Patricia Endre (the late Frank), and Daniel T. Devitt (Deborah), four loving grandchildren, Stephen Hermann, Brian Hermann (Kim), Kevin Devitt, and Kerry Devitt. Eileen was Gigi to two great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Megan Hermann. Visitation Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m. at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road (½ block east of Route 53), Rolling Meadows. Funeral Monday, 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Colette Church, for Mass at 10 a.m. Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. For information, 847-253-0224.
