Dear Wassel family, John and I were members of the same initiation class into the Kappa Sigma fraternity at Ohio State in the Fall of 1966. We spent some great times together, both serious and crazy, but at the end of the day, we all loved each other and were able to pick up right where we left off whenever we had contact. Haven't seen each other in many, many years, but we'll miss him greatly. RIP, my brother. AEKDB, Randy

To the Wassel Family and Friends,
I had the pleasure of working with and getting to know John when we worked together for a group of National Media Career Schools in Illinois in the 2000's. John was a very talented instructor who had a very successful film career and he loved sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of filmakers, producers and directors. The students all respected and admired John, they loved hearing his famous Hollywood type stories and would come back and visit John on campus to thank him for helping them get launched into successful careers in film, television and video production. I too admired John and his work ethic and creative talents and down to earth approach to co-workers, students and friends. My thoughts and prayers are with John and his family and loved one's during this difficult time. Take Care.

Dear Wassel Family,
I had the good pleasure of working with John at the Woodridge golf course. In fact, we enjoyed each other's company and golfed together on at least one occasion.
I used to call him Waylon (for Walon Jennings) and we both had a good laugh over it more than a few times. He was such a good-natured man.
I will miss him as I am sure you all do.
Please know that he is in my thoughts and prayers especially during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Brian D.

When I was 3 and John 4 1/2 we were running barefoot on Miner road and I stubbed my toe which began bleeding. John picked me up and carried me homeit wasn't close and I wasn't light ... but he never stopped carrying me until we reached home. From that day on he's been my hero and I always looked up to him.
I can't believe your not in this world anymore. I love you my brother Rest In Peace.
Andrea and George- I can only say my heart is broken for both of you. I know how much he loved you and how much you loved him.
I can't even comprehend the loss you both must feel. I'm so so sorry.
If there is anything I can do at all please call me. I'm sending all my love to you today my sister and nephew.
