NICHOLAS MARRA

LIBERTYVILLE - Nicholas Marra, 70, passed away November 22, 2021 at Advocate Condell Med. Ctr. Nick was born in Chicago. He was a lifelong learner, acquiring degrees from Marquette University (BS, Electrical Engineering), Northwestern University (MS, Biomedical Engineering) and the University of Chicago (MBA). Nick enjoyed a successful career in biomedical engineering supporting the advancement of health care. One of his greatest achievements was developing a home dialysis machine of which he became a consumer in his battle with End Stage Renal Disease. He loved cars and could often be found tinkering with his prized Volvo in the garage. Despite his active work life, his true priority was his family, whether coaching, helping with homework, or making Saturday morning waffles. He had a passion for music and loved to create mix CDs for his children that they still cherish. Nick enjoyed all things science fiction, a passion he enjoyed sharing with his children. Above all, he was a great teacher, and will be dearly missed. Nick is survived by his loving children, Ellen (Phil) Marra, Patty (Nick) Marra and Tim Marra; his cherished siblings, Rick (Linda) Marra, Cathy (Bill) Pahnke, and Mike (Jane) Marra; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen whom he lost only 2 weeks prior and his parents Frank and Jackie Marra. Visitation for Nick will be from 2:00-6:00pm on Sunday November 28th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30am on Monday Nov. 29th at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6401 Gages Lake Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031.
