R. RENFRO Obituary

R. Lloyd Renfro, 83, passed away July 15, 2015, at Autumn Leaves of Glen Ellyn. He was born October 4, 1931, in Eau Claire, Wis. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Phyllis, who passed away in 2000. He is survived by two sons, Chip (Barb) and Rob (Viki) and three grandchildren, Scott, Mike and Rachel. Lloyd had served in the Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He lived in Glen Ellyn for 52 years before moving to Wyndemere Retirement Home in 2000. He was a 1950 graduate of Glenbard High School. In 1956, Lloyd opened a garage and service station on Front Street in Wheaton. Later he moved his operation to Elmhurst, Ill. and began selling passenger and truck tires. In 1962, he again relocated his business to 1705 College Avenue, Wheaton, where his son, Chip, still operates Renfro Auto Center. He remained involved in the tire business and was both president and executive director of the Illinois State Tire Dealers Association. In 1982, Lloyd decided to become involved in local politics and was elected as a DuPage County Board member, where he proudly served for 14 years and helped oversee the formation of the county's solid waste and stormwater management committees. Some years later, Lloyd was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Services will be private.

Chip, Rob and Families,

I served with Lloyd 12 of his 14 years on the DuPage County Board. I know that he was a good man who loved his wife and family, his country and DuPage County. My favorite memories of Lloyd are of our duck hunting trips. While we would sometimes disagree on policy, there is no doubt that he was dedicated to making DuPage County a better place for it's citizens. May he rest in internal peace.

Rob, Chip and families:
It is with heartfelt sympathy that I write this. I had the great pleasure of working for your dad as his committee secretary during his time at DuPage County and was also honored to call him a friend. I have many years of memories of both your parents that I will always keep in my heart. Your dad was very good to me during our many years together.
May loving memories help ease your families pain.
Thinking of all of you during this time.
