Van was one of my Dad's (Ed Moynihan) best friends. i remember him coming over to visit when I was a child. I have also spoken to him on the phone many times before and after my Dad's passing. Dad and him used to bet on football games . He sent my dad a check and Dad didn't cash it for years just to drive him crazy. he sent me a very nice letter when dad died and it meant a lot to me. I'm sure they are together again.

My friend.
My memories are fond and many. So appreciative of his
guidance and presence in my life when I was in my 20's.
I was honored to have breakfast almost every saturday for a 4 year period with Van.
A patriarch of the Elgin Y.M.C.A. his humor, protection,
and counsel was personal and widespread. We love you and
will never forget you Van R.
