Gloria Cole Obituary

Gloria Jo Cole born January 2, 1949, in Memphis, Tennessee passed away at her home on January 9, 2024, at the age of 75. Gloria was a graduate of Sylacauga High School and studied at Memphis State University. After attending Memphis State, she worked at Fluor Daniel in the business office, managing accounts and inventory. She lived in several places while working for Fluor Daniel including Louisiana, New York, Florida, Georgia, and Birmingham, Alabama. After her employment with Fluor Daniel, she began working in the business office at Kimberly-Clark Construction. After retiring from Kimberly-Clark, she remained in Sylacauga, Alabama for the remainder of her life. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Murray "Spud" Cole and mother, Doris Scroggins Cole and is eternally reunited with them. She is survived by her brother, Hugh Cole (Renee Boswell and daughter, Christa) from Montgomery and her nephew, Thomas Cole (Katie) and her niece Lindsey Cole. She was very proud to be called Aunt Jo not only to Thomas and Lindsey but also to her great nieces, Abbie Kate, Miller Ann, Stella, Wyatt and great nephew, Allan. She is also survived by a multitude of extended family and friends. While her family and friends are saddened by her death, they are grateful for her life. Gloria Jo was a quiet soul and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She was a kind, caring and giving person and enjoyed her time with family and friends and her beloved cat, Callie. She was very intelligent and compassionate and loved playing darts, cross stitching, crocheting, reading, studying Catholicism, and preparing her specialty meals and appetizers at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also enjoyed spending time with friends at the Elks Lodge where she was a longtime member and was adored by many. Gloria faced many challenges in life, but she faced them with grace and resilience. Gloria had an uncanny ability to find happiness in all situations and met challenges head on with a can-do spirit. Even in the face of her own adversity and trials, Gloria remained a steadfast friend and confidante to everyone she knew. She was an avid storyteller and family historian. She will be remembered for all the stories and experiences she shared with family and friends. She truly loved and appreciated her people and never hesitated to demonstrate her feelings. She will be dearly missed by all the lives she touched but her humble, kind spirit will live on in the lives of all who know and love her. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on the day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8 A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel in Sylacauga, Alabama with a visitation from 1-2.
