Charles Powell Obituary
Charles "Chuck" Powell passed away peacefully in Kalispell, Montana on April 17, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on February 7, 1934, in Williston, North Dakota to Charles Addison Powell and Virginia Hope Powell, Chuck was raised with strong values along with his two sisters, Louise and Linda in North Dakota and graduated from Williston High School. He went on to the University of North Dakota, where he earned a degree in civil engineering and later a master's in business administration.
In 1957, Chuck married Phyllis, beginning a 68-year journey of love and devotion. Together, they raised three children, Jennifer Lynne, Charles Robert, and Christopher Scott. They built a life full of adventure, moving through North Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Virginia, and Denver (twice) before finally settling in the Flathead Valley of Montana.
Chuck was a big Denver Bronco fan a Love he passed down to all generations. Even the great grandsons tune in to follow games while sporting their Bronco jerseys.
In his retirement years, he didn't ski, golf, fish, hunt, or hike, as he was quick to admit, but he joyfully declared that he lived in Montana because his family was there-and that was what truly mattered to him.
He was a man of few words and a big heart. His family was his greatest pride and joy. He leaves behind his loving wife Phyllis, a sister Linda, their 3 kids and spouses, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandsons, all of whom knew his gentle strength and steadfast support. He loved nothing more than watching his family play sports, often found on the sidelines keeping score and stats with care.
Chuck lived a life defined by quiet patriotism, his age qualifying him to be part of the "Greatest Generation. His dependable presence that made those around him feel safe and cherished. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A memorial service and celebration of Chuck's life will be held May 4, 2025 at 1pm at the Christ Lutheran Church in Whitefish.
