Michael Cimbalo Obituary

Michael J. Cimbalo (Mike, Itai), 75, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

Michael was born on January 3, 1950, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Guillermo Cimbalo and Emma Cimbalo (Caliendo). He grew up in Memphis and graduated from Christian Brothers High School. He later moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he attended the University of Tennessee and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

After graduating, Michael embarked on a memorable six-month journey through Europe, where he reconnected with his Italian roots and discovered a lifelong love for travel, culture, and exploration. Italy remained his favorite destination, but his curiosity and appreciation extended throughout Europe and beyond.

Michael spent his professional life working in environmental engineering, specializing in wastewater treatment. Beginning his career at ETC, he remained dedicated to this industry throughout his life, finding purpose in work that contributed to the well-being of communities.

He was deeply involved in service and leadership, most notably as a member of the Rotary Club in Mexico, where he served as President of the International Club. Giving back and building connections across cultures were values he lived by.

Above all, Michael loved being a father and husband. He created lasting family traditions, especially during the holidays, when he could often be found cooking Italian meals and making his beloved lasagna. The kitchen was one of the many places where his love and joy were most evident.

Michael lived life with curiosity, resilience, and warmth. The lessons he shared with those around him were simple yet profound: explore the world, be resilient, find the good in everything, don't worry too much, live and let live, don't take things personally, keep going, savor every moment, enjoy good food-and never pass up chocolate.

His passions were many and reflected his vibrant spirit. He loved motorcycles, art, sports, cooking, traveling, and immersing himself in different cultures. He approached life with openness, humor, and an enduring appreciation for its pleasures.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Susana Cimbalo, and his cherished daughters, Irlanda Cimbalo and Grecia Cimbalo. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his adventurous spirit, generous heart, and unwavering love for his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 19, at Memphis Funeral Home, located at 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN, 38119. The memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM and the family will receive friends after the service until 3:00 PM.
