Michael West Obituary
Mike retired as the Assistant Area Manager for West Tennessee for the Social Security Administration (SSA) after 35 years of service. Mike was well known throughout the agency as a teacher and mentor to many people who went on to management positions.
Mike had a passion for automobile racing. For 50 years he was an active member of Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). He volunteered in every way possible within SCCA including: Flagging & Communications, 10 years as a Race Car Driver, a Road Racing Steward, Chairman of the Court of Appeals, Executive Steward of the Midwest Division, and Regional Executive for the Mid-South Region. Recently he served as the Super Tour Race Director for and the Assistant Race Director at the SCCA Runoffs. He mentored many drivers just starting out in their racing and at driving schools. He taught innumerable stewards the best approaches to applying the rules fairly while seeing mistakes as an opportunity to teach not punish.
His second passion was traveling the world with his Bobbie. They were able to see more places than can be mentioned here, including living in Germany for three years. Of course, his favorite trips were to Monaco in 2009 and in 2023 for the Formula One races.
His final passion was the time he spent with his grandchildren Trinity and Alex. Any opportunity he had to be with them was an opportunity he would take with zeal. His love for them knew no bounds.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Roberta "Bobbie" West of Memphis, Tennessee, his son Christopher L. West (Priscilla) of Clarksville, Tennessee, his grandchildren Trinity Parker of Oxford, Mississippi, Alexander West of Clarksville, Tennessee, And his siblings Marion Davis of Bryant, Arkansas and Martin West of Dover, Arkansas.
Services will be held Thursday December 19, 2024 in Memphis, Tennessee at Canale Funeral Directors. 2700 Union Ave. Extended, Memphis, TN 38112
Visitation begins at 1:30 PM followed by Service at 2:30 PM.
Saturday December 21, 2024 a Visitation will be held at at 10:00 AM at Pinecrest Funeral Home 7401 Highway 5 N, Little Rock, Arkansas 72002.
