Your dad was like a family friend...he was my mom's insurance agent, my brother's and then my husband's and mine. Dick Smith was a gem! He always looked at the bright side of things...knew who to call when a payment was quite late (yep!) and always the consummate professional. I am so sorry to hear of your loss...he made doing business a joy and we will miss him greatly. Sincerely, Pam and John Riordan, Franklin, MA

Dear Nancy:

It was a pleasure to know Dick...his warmth, humor, and grace -- especially through the trials of his illness -- were an example to all. No one will miss him more than you and his family, but please know there is an empty spot in many hearts with his passing. Your relationship was enviable: partners, friends, mutual supporters. (I think Dick gets 'extra points' for his flexibility and equanimity in dealing with people!!)

Love to you and all his family as you manage this transition.

Though many years have passed since I last talked with Dick, it doesn't mean that I haven't forgotten that wonderful smile and distinctive and warm laugh that always made me comfortable and welcomed whether in his home or just stopping into the "office" for whatever the reason may have been. As a couple Dick and Nancy always shined together. They were each others best friend. I always knew something had to be special the first time Nancy told me why they called each other "J" and "Schwartz". Very unique. Dick will be missed by many and my heart and prayers and warmth are with you, Nancy, in the days and months to come. Please know that.

My love to you.
