Dillard Waymon Masingale, 81, of Athens passed away Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, at Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born in Cleveland and was a lifelong resident of McMinn County. He was the son of the late Dillard McCary and Mamie Lou Elliott Masingale. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ella Marie Montgomery. He was a member of Athens Church of Christ. He was a member of the Dirty Dozen + 1 Englewood Rams Football Team of 1959. He was the owner of Foster Lumber Company of Niota and Masingale Logging until his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy Carroll Masingale; daughters and their spouses, Patti and Greg West and Anne and Lee Montgomery; son and his spouse, Mike and Joy Masingale, all of Athens; grandchildren, Sara Montgomery, Maggie Montgomery, Austin (Bethany) Masingale, Drew (Kaile) Masingale, Forrest (Candice) West and Griffin West; one great-grandson, Archer Masingale; sisters, Jo Ann (Chester) Perian, Carolyn (Tony) Goodin and Kay (Mike) Williams; brother, Roger (Janice) Masingale; brother-in-law, Max (Melody) Carroll; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved beagle, Lucy. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, at Athens Church of Christ with Minister Mark Littleton, Minister Tim Gunnells and Minister Mike Williams officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Pallbearers will be Austin Masingale, Drew Masingale, Griffin West, Greg West, Lee Montgomery and Matt Goodin.
