Hey Granny,
I just wanted to take the time to tell you how much I miss you!!! The saying goes that time heals all wounds and I am not so sure that is true. My heart still hurts since you've been gone. I know that you're in a better place and I am trying hard not to be selfish, but this hasn't been easy for me. Your death seemed so sudden and you seemed to be the last stitch in our family bondage. I also pray that WE can all become as close as we used to be (all of us overflowing the apt at 155 on Sundays, eating soul food.)

Although I cherish the good times, visiting VA will never be the same.

I will continue to "Hold On" to GOD to whom you introduced me to at a very young age...THANK U

Mom and I talk about you often and she's hanging in there.

Hugs, Kisses and Lots of LOVE until we meet again!!!

I LOVE YOU AND I MISS U GRANDMA YOU WERE MY BEST FRIEND THE ONLY ONE THAT I COULD REALLY TALK TO BUT JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE GONE DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU CANNOT HEAR MY CRY...

NEVER ALONE
I feel you in the morning
When at first I awake
Your thought is with me
With each decision I make

You'd been around forever
Since the first breath I took
Now I have to go on alone
But for love, I need not look

Cause by what you bestowed
In our short time together
Will last in my heart
Forever and ever

Although you've left
And now walk above
I'm never alone
I'm wrapped in your love

Enjoy now your long waited reward
Feel peace that your love continues on
What was taught to me, will be taught to mine
Cause you live on in me even after you've gone

Aunt Barbara,

You will never be forgotten. I thank you so much for providing me with the answers I needed to track our family tree; as family we must hold onto the legacy of past generations: our Native American Heritage, as well as Blackness .

FOR MY MOM

I'M NOT SURE IF YOU REALIZE JUST HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU.
SO I DECIDED TO WRITE THIS POEM TO TELL YOU WHY I DO.
IT'S BECAUSE YOU PATIENTLY LISTEN TO MY STORIES, WORRIES, AND FEARS.
AND BECAUSE YOU REMAIN STEADFAST WHEN OTHER FAMILY AND FRIENDS SEEM TO DISAPPEAR.
IT'S FOR THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE YOU SHOW WHEN I SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF BAD DECISIONS.
FOR THE SUPPORT AND WISDOM YOU PROVIDE WHEN LIFE'S SITUATIONS CLOUD MY VISION.
IT'S FOR THE COMFORT IN KNOWING THAT I CAN TALK TO YOU ABOUT ANYTHING,
WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT THE FALLOUT MY SHARING MIGHT BRING.
IT'S FOR WRITING ME LETTERS AND SENDING ME FUNNY JUNK MAIL.
IN ADDITION TO THE GENTLE NUDGES TO GET ME TO TRY THINGS AT WHICH I FEAR I'LL FAIL.
IT'S FOR THE COUNTLESS THINGS YOU'VE DONE FOR ME.
A LIST THAT WOULD NEVER END.
BUT MOSTLY IT'S FOR MAKING THE SMOOTH TRANSITION FROM MY MOTHER TO MY BEST FRIEND.

NEVER-ENDING LOVE
