Benjamin Cosgo Batten

SMITHFIELD - Benjamin Cosgo Batten, 79 entered into enteral rest Friday, January 4, 2013 at his home. Ben was born in Isle of Wight County to the late Agnes Newby and Clem Batten. He was a lifelong member of Campbell's Chapel A.M.E. Church. Ben was employed by ITT Gwaltney for more than 40 years before retirement. He served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Evelyn C. Batten. He is survived by one son, Reginald A. Batten, Sr (Anita); 10 grandchildre; two sisters Rev. Deloris P. Wooten, Mabel Taliaferro (Harry); four brothers, Clem Batten(Florence), Illinois Batten(Barbara), Palfus Batten, Dalton Batten (Sylvia) and a host of other relatives and friends. A Funeral Service will be held 12pm Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Campbell's Chapel AME Church. Viewing will be held Friday from 4-7pm at the funeral chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
