Thomas E. Spence, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in his home in Chesapeake. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Elloitt Spence, his parents, James R. and Margaret W. Spence and sisters Evelyn Pitsenbarger and Virgie Alberico.
Survivors include his brother, James R. (Buddy) Spence, Jr. and wife, Sandra, of Hertford, North Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thomas was a native of Portsmouth, Virginia and retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after serving 42 years as an electrician. Thomas was a long time NASCAR fan and traveled to many races. He especially enjoyed Christmas when he would decorate his house and play with his grandnieces’ and grandnephews’ toys – like the big kid he was.
He was especially devoted to Ruby and diligently took care of her during her extended illness.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at noon at Littles Funeral Home, 1515 S. Church St, Smithfield, VA 23430. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com
