David Lee Abel

POQUOSON - David Lee Abel, 57, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2002. He was a native of Richmond, Indiana, and a Poquoson resident since 1986. After a twenty-four year career in the U.S. Navy, he retired in 1989. As a Nuclear Machinist Mate, he enjoyed his duties as a submarine mariner until 1985. He joined the surface fleet after receiving the position of Command Master Chief and his last assignment was on the USS Hermitage. He was a lifetime member of the Fleet Reserve Association and attended Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Preceding him in rest is his mother, Mary L. Abel. Surviving members of his family include his wife of thirty-three years, Paula M. Abel; son, David Paul Abel and wife, Joy; daughter, Jennifer J. Abel; father, Robert E. Abel; and brother, Stephen R. Abel and wife, Melissa. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday evening, 7:00, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church with Rev. O. H. Burton Jr. officiating. A time of fellowship and visitation will follow the memorial service.
