David A. Custer

David A. Custer, 50, of Yorktown passed away Monday, July 23rd following a long fight against pancreatic cancer. David attended Menchville High School and graduated from Christopher Newport University. He worked 27 years as a delivery driver for UPS during which time he made friends with many co-workers and customers. He is survived by his parents, Betty and Nathan Custer, daughter Alexa, sister Stacy, niece Shelby, uncle and aunt Stephen and Sharon Custer along with cousins Roger, Christy and Allyson. David loved spending time with Alexa, often taking her and her friends to movies, bowling, out to eat and shopping. He took great joy in trips with Alexa to Washington Capitals games and going to Red Sox baseball games with his family and friends. Finally this year, his beloved Capitals won hockey's Stanley Cup following many years of disappointments during the playoffs. He enjoyed often traveling to attend concerts of his favorite musical groups. He recently took his Mom to Washington to see Bon Jovi perform. His Yorktown home was always open and welcoming to the neighborhood kids, especially his haunted garage at Halloween. The family wishes to thank Dr. John Miller and the staff at Peninsula Cancer Institute, Williamsburg for their wonderful care for David. The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, with a service to follow at 11:00. A reception will follow. All services are at Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church.
