Dorathea Meister Stellwag

Dorathea (Dora) M. Stellwag passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning or August 13th 2022. She was born in Barnsdorf, Germany and spent her formative years in Germany where she married Anton Stellwag on March 25th, 1950. She immigrated to join him in the USA in 1954 and they resided together in Hampton from that time on. Dora was a consummate homemaker and carer, always busy keeping the home tidy, and attending to everything that needed to be done for her family and friends, especially caring for her grandchildren and surrogate grandchildren. She inherited a love and talent for gardening from her father and spent hours a day tending to her well-manicured yard and her extensive collection of indoor plants. She enjoyed cooking, preparing many dishes from her native Germany including her delicious potato salad, rolladen and Kloss. Dora was a wonderful dancer and, for over 40 years, performed folk dances at local events with a troupe from the German-American Society. She had a lovely soprano voice and sang with the Immaculate Conception choir. She was unassuming but forthright, kind, caring and generous with her time and seemingly boundless energy. Dora is preceded in death by her father, mother and her three sisters She is survived by her husband, her three children and their spouses, her three grandsons, two granddaughters, and her four great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews both in the USA and Germany. A public memorial service celebrating Dora's life will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19th.
