Jeffrey Conover Obituary

POQUOSON - Jeff Conover, 52, passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2016. He enjoyed his career at NASA Langley Research Center and the many friends he made at work, playing in the softball league, and his involvement in the Poquoson community. He coached children of all ages in football, basketball, soccer, and baseball. He was especially appreciative of all the children, parents and the members of the Poquoson Little League Board as he enjoyed his service with them. Jeff loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing the Chesapeake Bay and loved salmon fishing in Alaska. He enjoyed deer hunting in West Virginia and elk hunting in Colorado. He was an avid boater and water skier and enjoyed "pulling" anyone who dared go behind his boat! All of those memorable experiences were shared with hundreds of dear friends and family whom he will miss. Jeff is survived by his wife, Stephanie Conover; son, Christian Conover; parents, Jim and Carol Conover; uncle, Lee Heil and Kelli Schaeffer; sister, Dana Pomerantz and husband Dave; and, nephew and niece Zach and Maeghan Pomerantz. Jeff's loving grandparents, Harold and Florence Conover and Clara Heil, predeceased him. A family visitation will be held 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson, immediately followed by a memorial service led by Pastor Brent Staul. Jeff endured a long battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), a neurodegenerative disease that still requires much-needed research. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the MSA Coalition at multiplesystematrophy.org or 1-877-737-5999. Special thanks to the round-the-clock caregivers who have been angels: Linda, Lillian, Cathy, and Kara. Special thanks to Joyce and Cookie from Sentara Home Hospice. You are all wonderful and your daily blessings were a godsend and will continue to be for those whom you serve. Claytor Rollins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Today is the 6th Anniversary of Jeff's freedom from Multiple system Atrophy and the 6th Anniversary that the rest of us (family and friends) remember him and his life. It still seems like it was just yesterday.... I remember you every day and thank God that you were in my life and my big brother. For whatever reason, this year was harder than others. I am doing my best to take care of Mom & Dad here on earth and know that you are helping in anyway that you can, too. We will all see you in time, but in the mean time know that I (and Mom & Dad) Love You and Miss You!

Truly the loss of a great man. He ived his life to the fullest but was never too busy for others always flashing that terrific smile. Such fond memories being neighbors I'm sure he and Lloyd are up there sharing stories of those 4th of July parties & fireworks. God bless you.

I am a good friend of Jeff's sister Dana. I never really had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Jeff in person but I felt like I knew him through her fond memories and references to him throughout the many years I have known her. I was always jealous that she had such a cool brother and of the bind they had as I had no brothers. I cant imagine how hard it was to live so far away during all these last days. I am glad Dana got to spend some time with him before he left us. I am glad Jeff is no longer suffering. I think it was hardest for him to give up his independence and from what I hear, the car keys. I like that you mentioned all the caregivers in this obituary because they are truly angels and it must be a hard heart breaking job that they do for the people we love. Steph, I only met you once a month or so ago but I can only imagine how exhausted you are and the pain you must have been feeling for a long time. Dana showed me a ...slide show of sorts that her dad had made about Jeff's life...I really feel like I missed out on knowing a great guy...those of you who did know him...are blessed.

Jeff was one of the first people we met when we moved to Poquoson. And of course it was at a ball field. We really bonded over kids and sports. His smile was infectious and he was such a warm and humble person. We always had a great time around him. Stephanie, Christian and his extended family are in our prayers. May Jeff rest in peace now with God and be free to play softball with the angels.

To the Conover family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Jeff will be missed and remembered so much for his smile, his upbeat attitude, a great person, and so many more special things. I worked with Jeff at NASA, I had the opportunity to play softball with Jeff. He was just so much fun to be around, he just brightened your day. May the good Lord be with you and look over you during this time, Stephanie and family, you will be in our prayers, God Bless.

Jeff was a great band student, always positive and ready to see the program excel in every way. He even took the time to pitch in with the Band Parents after he graduated to support the program. I will always picture him as the tall lanky Trombone player that looked like a surfer , and anchored the front left of the 1st rank when we marched. My heart goes out to a wonderful family. Jeff's efforts and character will always be remembered, and his mark is forever a part of the Poquoson community.

To the entire Conover Family,
Jeff and I graduated Poquoson High together, I hadn't seen him in years until I started working at NASA ten years ago and we were reacquainted then. He hadn't changed one bit, the same great person I remembered from school. I pray God will comfort you all during your time of sorrow. I was blessed to have met him during my life. God be with you all.
