Joseph Weitz

1942 - 2021

Joseph Weitz passed away March 23, 2021. He was born is Pittsburgh PA on July 24, 1942 to Joseph Frank Weitz and Marie Groesch. Joe attended catholic school through high school and developed a strong faith in God and continued practicing his strong catholic faith until the day of his passing. He served in the United States Airforce from 1960-1964 and then went on to start his career as an electrician working his way to SPERRY RAND as a test engineer for NASA, working on the F15 Simulators at Langley Air force Base. In the early 1980s, Joe took a position as a test engineer for Philip Morris USA in Williamsburg VA and worked over 20 years at the plant retiring in early 2000s. Joe was very active in the catholic church serving as an usher for many years at St. Joseph Catholic Church and then was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church up until his passing. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus serving in multiple positions and ultimately as a Past Grand Knight. Joe loved participating in bowling leagues, locally, at the state level and nationally serving as a lane inspector for the USBC and received recognition for his 25 years of participation in the USBC. He was active in his sons lives coaching football and attending baseball and football games of his sons all the way through the college years. Joe was a talented wood worker building furniture and toys for his sons and grandson. Most importantly Joe was a very devoted husband and father that worked hard, had fun and provided for his family and will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.

Joe is survived by his wife, Kathleen Weitz; sons, Dr. David Weitz and Darren Weitz; grandson, Jackson Weitz; nephews, Rick Bauman, Jim Bauman, Karen Johnson, Stephen Schumacher; and sister-in-law, Rose Hall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at a later date at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and inurnment will follow at the church columbarium.
