Greetings Regina Harrison, DyVeta Whitaker and Family:

I can't believe my good friend Joe is gone.
Joe and I were like oil and water, and we developed a wonderful friendship. We were also similar in a lot of ways because Joe was very passionate about the community.

Joe Whitaker was an ordinary man who did great things.

Joe was a true friend, an inspiration, and a political confidant. In fact, for a variety of reasons, we miss Joe today, and I personally wish that he was alive. Joe would certainly run for re-election again, if he were alive and yes, Joe would win!! Joe loved his family and his family loved him.

I truly miss Joe Whitaker.

Joe was my friend.

Dear Regina, DyVeta and Family Members:

On behalf of the Peninsula District Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the Virginia State Unit SCLC and the Southeast Community Day Planning Committee, we offer our condolences to you and the members of your family.

Your father, and my good friend Joe, will be truly missed and his many contributions in the community and to his family.

We know that Joe loved his family, enjoyed his family, being together among friends, and he loved GOD. We also know that GOD loved Joseph Whitaker and GOD called His faithful servant Joseph Whitaker home to celebrate and join his beloved wife Viola Sweet Pea Whitaker in heaven!

It is my belief that GOD allowed you to share your father with the world and then GOD called your father home from labor to reward!!

May GOD continue to keep you and your family strong and provide comfort during this time of reflection.

Sincerely,

Andrew Shannon
