Kenneth Saylor Obituary

Kenneth "Kenny" David Saylor II, 67, died in his Hampton, Virginia home on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 after a short illness.

Kenny was born in Rome, NY to Kenneth Saylor and Penelope Xola Plummer. He spent many of his early years traveling the world with his military family and began his sailing adventures in the Mediterranean and then on the Chesapeake Bay. Sailing quickly became his passion and his life's work. He founded the North Sail Loft in Hampton where he produced renowned sails for both racing and cruising. He was a member of Hampton Yacht Club and a long time member of The Sailing Club of the Chesapeake. Kenny's phenomenal acumen as a sailmaker, tactician and helmsman resulted in an impressive list of race wins locally and throughout the Caribbean, South America, and the US. Kenny and Andria were synergistic partners in life and sailing. They took particular pleasure in winning races with their hometown crews in major regattas against larger, high-tech boats/programs. In addition to sailing, Kenny loved traveling, cooking, and fishing with friends. His quick wit, friendly smile, and infectious attitude will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Kenny was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Andria Saylor, his daughter Morgan Saylor, grandchildren Noah Saylor-Savona and Lily Nichols, sister Kim (Rick) Carr, and nephew Ricky Carr.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers Kenny would be honored by memorial donations to HYC Junior Sailing Program or Youth Sailing Virginia, Inc.

My deepest heartfelt wishes to the family of Kenny. I have seen his sailing skills and his love of life firsthand. Much to be admired, he was always the one everyone wanted on their boat, and pretty much everyone who had him on their boat won! His smile and joy of life was a thing of beauty to myself and many others. Peace to the family, may you all feel Gods love and especially Kennys. Love, Susie Flythe

My Condolences to Kenny’s Family. Started racing with Kenny in late 80’s & early 90’s before I owned a boat. Sailed with him in Fla. & Annapolis & of course Hampton. Whether I owned a little boat or a big one, if I asked him he’d go. We enjoyed each other’s presence. His last name said it all. He was the Ultimate sailor. Rest In Peace. Bill Drinkwater
