Mary SIDEBOTTOM Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Mary Elizabeth Sidebottom, born June 18, 1912, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at the age of 100 years plus.
Born to Albert O. and Mary H, Lurix, she was the eldest of eight children. She married Lawrence Sidebottom Sr., and settled in Bridgeport, Conn., where they had one adorning son, Lawrence Sidebottom Jr. Here is where she discovered her fondness for travel, whether a drive to the Florida Keys, trips to Europe or Hawaii, or later in life the cruises she took with friends and family. After the passing of her husband, she moved to Williamsburg to be closer to her son, Larry and grandchildren. She became a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, in 1975, where she made many friendships that were cherished.
She was an avid gardener and delighted in floral and plant arrangements for her home and the Alter Guild at St. Martin's. She was a talented artist, who enthusiastically supported anything done by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After the death of her son, she lived with her grandson, Lawrence Sidebottom III and finished her journey at Morningside of Williamsburg.
The family wishes to send a heartfelt thanks to Lynn and her staff, and to all the Hospice nursing staff who helped in making her transition comfortable and peaceful.
Mary Elizabeth is survived by her brother, Paul; sister, Henrietta; daughter-in-law, Linda Sidebottom; grandchildren, Lawrence Sidebottom III "Chip" (Stephanie), Laura M. Rieg (Thomas) and Lisa M. Sidebottom Marshburn. She also left five great-grandchildren to adore her memory, Jessica and Jackson Sidebottom, Alexander and Melissa Rieg, and Taylor Maroney.
Prayer services to be held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, with a private interment on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either St. Martin's or Hospice of Williamsburg.
To all the friends and family whose lives she touched over the years, she would not want us to grieve, rather she would greet us with a surprisingly large hug from someone of her petit stature and say "life is what you make it, THANK YOU for making mine so joyful" and end with a cheerful "God Bless." On that end, we, her family, say we love you Gram.
