Carol and the rest of the Eckstien Clan,
My family and I were saddened to hear of Matt's passing. He was always a new smile and cozy feeling when we saw him. I can't tell you how much he helped me pass microbiology. We know he is now with God and all of us watching and helping through the good times and bad. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

To Carol, Tom and Lorrie, Jay, Chris and Brian and families;
When we first learned of Matt’s cancer, we were devastated. But we knew Matt was strong and we prayed for him constantly. Through a number of people at various churches, many faithful individuals were praying for him.
After his surgery, we prayed for and thought we would see a miracle…
During his chemotherapy, we prayed for and thought we would see a miracle…
And then, after his final diagnosis, we prayed for and thought we would see yet another miracle…
On this Good Friday, and as we approach Easter Sunday, we can be assured that we did, in fact, witness a miracle with Matt. We know that he is in heaven right now because of a sacrifice made two thousand years ago by God’s own son - Jesus. And we know that we can join him in heaven, if we have faith as Matt did, and we can look forward to a day when;
“…He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.”
We know this time for you is difficult, although we cannot fully appreciate the sorrow and pain you are experiencing. We look back at many fond memories of Matt, and are thankful for the time that he was here with us.
We thank you for the time you allowed us to be with Matt during his illness and express our deepest and most heartfelt condolences.
God Bless you and your families.
Uncle Paul and Aunt Carol, Tom, Rob and Colleen and families.

On March 28, 2004, Matt went to be with the Lord. Because of this, he feels no more pain and sheds no more tears. God is always with us and now so is Matt. I would like to say to Matt's nieces and nephews, Christopher, Thomas, Heather, Ashleigh, Adam, Emily, and Megan, that anything they do, baseball, football, cheerleading, Matt is there watching you. I had the opportunity to be with Matt the last three weeks of his life. I helped his wife, Carol, take care of him. I need to say those three weeks were very special, but also mentally and physically draining. Carol did this for three years. If that's not love, I don't know what is. Carol, I want to say thank you for being a wonderful wife to my brother. Matt always called me Nizzle, so I called him Snizzle. So on that, I would like to say: Snizzle, I love you and will miss you.
Your brother,
Jay

Carol,
For 3 long years we watched you and Matt suffer. You have handled yourself with a dignity we cannot describe in words. You followed your heart and honored yours and Matts love to the highest degree. To say that you and Matt are an example of unconditional love is an understatement. Thank you for always hoping, always believing. Chris and I want you to know that we are here for you: to cry with you, to talk with you, to share memories with you. We thank God everyday that Matty had you. Please know that you are forever a member of our family ~ our sister. Hold tight to your memories and keep talking to us. We grieve with you for our loss.
ALWAYS~ Chris, Kristen, Ashleigh and Baby Adam.

To Carol & the entire Eckstein family
When I heard the news about Matt's passing, I could not believe it. We had several classes together, & he always had me laughing about something. His sense of humor & his love for Carol are two things I will never forget. I still have a picture of Matt & Carol at our Class of 1990 prom. God Bless!

To Carol & Matt's family: I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Immediately when I saw his obituary online, my memory flashed back to the times I would see him and Carol in the hallway at YHS and we would stop to talk. Carol, you and Matt were visibly in love and I was not surprised to see that you two had wed. I know this is a difficult time for you and I am praying that God will sustain you and Matt's entire family.

Carol, Lorraine, Tom, Carol, Paul and the entire Eckstein Family,
Mom, Peg, Butch, Marion & Rey, Gin and Steve, Gregory & Jessica were all very saddened by the news of Matthew's passing. Carol, you were blessed to marry the man who loved you so very much! I am so sorry your path here leaves Matthew in your heart and not by your side. We were all praying so very hard for his miracle to happen. Many a night I visualized an angel who had wrapped her wings around Matt and was silently praying, asking God for his life to be spared. We were sad to hear the answer was no. He was so young to have endured such a difficult struggle for life. He fought the good fight for 3 years. we constantly asked about his well being and his progress, hoping some miracle, in Mom's words: "I asked God to place His hand on Matthew's head and remove the cancer, so he could live, love and participate in life fully." Perhaps at this holiest of times when Jesus is accepting his fate to bear the sins of the world for His Father and all of us on earth, he looked down and saw all the love and prayers going out to Matthew and decided to bring him home to a place of peace, no pain and suffering and into the arms of all those who have gone before him, including Auntie Jean. Matthew surely was a very special man. From all the wonderful messages in the guest book, I can see that, although I never got to personally know him. Our prayers go out to all of you during this difficult time. We want you to know we love all of you very much and we will keep you all in our prayers and pray that God will find it in his heart to comfort all of you and to celebrate Matthew's life rather than be saddened by his passing. Mom shared a very special time with you all last summer and feels a very special connection to you all. We will keep in touch and keep you all in our hearts and prayers. WE LOVE YOU ALL!

Dear Carol,
I remember after Matthew was diagnosed and you came with Matthew into the office to see Dr Reagan for his appointments, we all remarked at how well you were taking care of him and how devoted you were to him. You were a shining example of how a wife and life partner should be! God be with you and your family in this time of sorrow. God Bless You.
On behalf of all of my co-workers at Hampton Roads Neurology we extend out deepest sympathy. Be Strong and know that God is with you every moment and will see you through.

Upon coming to York High School in October 1989, Matt was one of the first people I met when I went into the guidance counselors office. He was always a friendly and energetic individual. I have fond memories of the track meets that we went on. May God bless and keep you during this time.

Carol and Family, I offer my deepest condolences during your time of sorrow. Matt was a good friend in high school and I will always remember his sincerity and his sense of humor. Matt could also be very serious. I can remember many times when he would "level" me out!! I also remember what a great couple Carol and Matt were and I know that love will live on. Carol, stay strong and know that Matt is resting peacefully where he feels no more pain. I believe we will see him again some day and what a rejoiceful day that will be. I will keep you and his family in my prayers.

God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around him and whispered, "Come with me," With tearful eyes you watched him suffer and saw him fade away, although you loved him dearly, you could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke your heart to prove, He only takes the best.
During a diffcult time in my life last year, this poem appreared in this newspaper and touched my heart. I thought I would pass it along.
Your family is in our prayers.
