To Mrs. Bowman, Joy, Judi, Lisa the rest of the families.
Oh my gosh. I found out at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference about Dr. Bowman. I was deeply saddened to hear that he is gone to Glory. I knew of his prolonged illness; but it still hurt to find out he had passed away. I share, in some small way, your great loss.
I am glad that I knew Dr. Bowman -- without him, I never would have been accepted to Hampton U; I never would have met any of you...Back then, I had the plesure to know and hang out with Judi; she too helped me be the best I could at HU.
Time has passed and taken us in separate roads -- that is always God's plans for us. But you are in my prayers and always in my heart. Dr. Bowman opened the door and paved the way for many of us to be successful in life. I am so glad I know him; and I met you all. May God continue to bless you as family together; hopefully our paths will cross again.

Dr. Bowman was a mentor and a friend. We had a bond when I came to Hampton University in 1984. He was a graduate of Washington State University and so was George (husband)and I. He was always supported and assisted me in any way he could to meet the goals and objectives of Hampton University. His honest appraisals of what needed to happen was useful for me and the work I had become to enjoy. I remember the retreats for work and the fun we had in the evenings after each days work was completed. He will be missed. His homegoing was just as it should have been, designed for a worker in God's vineyard.

2007; and I am very saddend. I am one of hundreds of students that graduated from our beloved college, Hampton Institute.
I am a alumni and graduate of Hampton University as a direct result of my friend and mentor Dr. Ollie Bowman.
I send my heartfelt condolences to you his family members and Judi and Dee whom I met during my days at the Institute from 1981-1985.
Dr. Bowman will be sorely missed...over the years I had gotten out of touch; but I loved him also...and I share in your loss.

Dr. Bowman touched the lives of many Hampton Institute / University students over the years by not only granting us the privilege to attend Hampton, but when we got there and we had the chance to get to know him, he made you feel like family. His kindness and the kindness of the entire Bowman family taught me that if you were a Hamptonian, you were part of a Hampton Family. I remember being nervous when first visiting Dr. Bowman’s home and leaving feeling like part of the family. To the Bowman family my sincere condolences. I worked as Dr.B receptionist in the admissions office in 1992-1998. He was an outstanding individual who will be truly missed. He often encourged me to go back to school because I had a lot to offer and wisdom beyond my years, so I took his advice and for that I will always be thankful to him. Dr. Bowman was my mentor and friend at Carver Memorial Presbyterian Church for more than 15 years. He was a lion of a man, so very strong in his faith and passionate about Bible Study and Sunday school. THe angels were very busy last week. They came and took some beautiful souls, because they saw that the illnesses were becoming too much and they saw that souls like, Ollie's, were just tired. So, with the swiftness of God's mighty hands, Ollie went home to his Master's and took up residence in that beautiful White Mansion that sits atop the whitest clouds amid the royal blue skies. Does it have a name? Oh Yes!! Heavenly Hampton University 00000. Ollie has joined the eternal singing, shouting, rejoicing, and preaching of other Hamptonians. He can and will tell them about the new buildings and programs and energy that is keeping our 139 year old institution going. He will tell them how God has endowed the university with good students, a good administration and staff and a cadre of praying alumni. And, He will smile when he sees Christ sitting in that mansion with open arms.
Rest, Dr. Bowman. You most assuredly earned it.

Ollie's death symbolizes the end of an era for me. I remember him as a little girl when he taught on the campus of FAMU in Tallahassee, Florida. He represented a time of committed faculty, caring mentors, frilly ladies, and gentlemen of distinction. He was an avid and loyal member of the Hampton University community and he served it well in many capacities for many years. He will be missed. On behalf of my mother, Barbara Boardley, and all of the hundreds of Rattlers and Pirates whose lives he influenced in a positive way, I extend my heartfelt sympathies to Gaye and the Bowman family. You are blessed with many wonderful memories. May they continue to sustain you throughout this very difficult time and beyond.

One of the first persons I met upon entering Hampton University then Hampton Institute (circa '68) was Dr. Ollie Bowman. He had a wonderful way of making a person feel right at home with his bright smile and sunny disposition! He was HAMPTON in many ways. He represented what each of us should be every day as we strive to "let our lives do the singing" out here in the real world! God Bless his memory and family!!

Dr. Ollie Bowman was a great man. He was a man with a wonderful heart and who believed in helping others. Because of his kindness toward helping others, I was admitted to Hampton University in a special program to help incoming freshman succeed.I graduated and went on to teach and recently was elected to the Newport News School Board. Mrs. Bowman, Gay if you permit, Dr. Bowman was much more than an educator and administrator to me. I cannot count all of the wayward, misguided adolescents that he gave a second chance to succeed. We became trusted friends. I would send him students who deserved and needed second chances. He never disappointed them, nor they him. As an adult both of you welcomed me into your home. You kept an eye on both my son and daughter when at Hampton University. But as for chances, if he had not given me my first chance, there would have been little success in my future. I celebrate his life and I thank you both for your love.

Dr. Bowman was truly an insipration to many people. He touched many lives not only through his work at Hampton University, but in his daily walk. My deepest sympathy to the entire family(Lisa, Butch). Dr. Bowman was a great help to the Hampton University Marching Band. Dr. Bowman developed a sincere bond with the Band Directors(Mr. Young, Mr. Ransom)and the band students.
Dr. Bowman made sure that all the Band students had a room, a meal ticket, books, class schedule. Dr. Ollie M. Bowman Jr. has been doing what God instructed Ollie M. Bowman Jr. to do!

Dr. Ollie Bowman was a great man, and a very caring person. He touched our lives in many different ways. He was available when needed, and you could count on Dr. Bowman to follow through with difficult matters. He meant a lot to me and my family. He helped our son, Arem Khari Duplessis, jump start his career when he was admitted to Hampton University; at the time, Dr. Bowman was the Dean of Admissions. Arem went on to enjoy a stellar stdent life at Hampton University, achieving the Dean's list many times, while finishing near the top of his class in the Art Department. Arem then went on to graduate school in New York City, and today, he is the Art Director for the New York Times Sunday Magazine. Thank you, Dr. Bowman, for believing in our son.
