Randall Caldwell Obituary

Randall (Randy) S. Caldwell Sr, 60, joined his heavenly Father suddenly and unexpectedly on March 14th, 2022. A lifelong resident of Hampton, Randy was born July 3, 1961 and preceded in death by his parents Johnny and Betty Caldwell. He is survived by his wife of 42 yrs, Leslie Blount Caldwell; son, Randall S. Caldwell Jr. (Krystal); daughter Lucille Gellerman (Kevin) and daughter Hannah Cordero (Brian); granddaughters Adrianna Shirk, Rebecca Shirk, Hope Gellerman, Kaylee Caldwell and Kenzie Caldwell; his sister Sandy Burcher (Ray); and many other family members and friends.

A graduate of Bethel High School, Randy worked at GTE Sylvania, owned and operated Randy's Gun Shop and retired from Atlantic Communications after years of selling and installing two-way radios and public safety equipment for police, fire and government agencies. An avid outdoorsman, Randy enjoyed hunting, fishing, wildlife and guns which led him to work for Bass Pro Shop as the Hunting Manager for over 7 years.

Randy was dependable, steadfast and loyal - a man who could be called on at any time to respond. He was a fierce protector of family and friends. He kept your knives sharp. He taught you safety. He cut the grass. He was your emergency contact. He reminded you when ammo was on sale. He walked you to your car. He always had a life story to share. He invited you to foosball and poker night. He texted you the weather and breaking news before you heard it elsewhere. He supported 1st responders always and had special friendships with many Hampton police/fire people. He checked the wildlife cameras and protected the animals on the family's North Carolina property. He escorted Santa into Bass Pro every Christmas. He could recall more than one embarrassing story about you. He yelled for quiet one minute and hit you with marshmallows the next. He threatened birthday spankings and gave bear hugs instead. He put a healthy fear in would-be suitors. He was Papa Bear. Papa Protector.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, March 25th, 6-8pm and service Saturday, March 26th, 1pm at Todds Lane Bible Church, 1457 Todds Lane, Hampton, VA 23666. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grove Christian Outreach Center (groveoutreach.com), Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (dwr.virginia.gov/donate), North Carolina Wildlife Resources (ncwildlife.org/donate) or any wildlife conservation organization of your choice.

Randy was childhood friend who became a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and family member, college and friend to all whom knew him. Every time I ever interacted with him he was quite engaged in helping others and teaching everybody around him about living life on purpose and doing things right. God bless his wife and family and those who loved him most during this time of loss and reflection. Randy will never be forgotten by those who him and may the Lord bless his entire family from his legacy of caring and being concerned for others.

Randy was a close friend for over 30 years. He was the best man at my wedding and also my best friend in life. He was the only friend I had that I could call anytime night or day and he would drop what he was doing and come. Randy was always on my side even when I was wrong. That's just the kind of friend he was, the kind you can't replace... he was like a brother to me and like an uncle to my son Brady. I loved him and will always miss the friend I had in him. I'm deeply sorry for the loss to his family and friends. It has impacted all our lives.

A better friend you could not find. For everyone. And to see his legacy, simply look to his family. Randy's death leaves so many holes. But the main one is in our hearts.
Rest in Peace. Keep a watch over us. Love you so.

I new Randy via the Hampton Fire Dept when he was employed with Atlantic Communication. I remember him as a very knowledgeable and helpful person. We talked a lot about communications. He took great care of the fire department radio equipment. I'm sure that he will be greatly missed.

Randy was a lifelong friend. He was also my brother-in-law. In many ways he has made his family proud. He was a good husband and provider. I know for sure he has made my wife his sister proud many times. But one thing I know for sure I knew his dad well and he has made his dad very proud of him. I was lucky to call him a friend a brother-in-law and part of my family. Rest in peace Randy there are not
