Ronald Iverson Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Ronald Iverson, 48, born to Willie L. Iverson Sr. (deceased) and Jessie Mae Oxford, departed this life on April 21, 2004. He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie Iverson; six children, Stefant Boyd, Jasmine Iverson, Dynale Martin, Ronnette McCalop, Colby Iverson, Tyshawn McIntosh; and nine grandchildren. Ronald graduated from Hartford High School in Connecticut, where he excelled in sports, especially basketball. He later joined the Hartford, Conn., Sheriff's Department where he worked for several years. In 1988 he moved to the Tidewater area where he met and married Stephanie on May 28. They shared nearly 16 years of marriage and raised two children, Fanty and Jazz. He worked as a Master car detailer and hoped to open his own shop in the near future. His unexpected call home suspended his dreams. Ronald, affectionately called 'I,' was a fun loving man that never met a stranger. He truly had the 'gift of gab.' Ronald touched lives wherever he went, no matter the amount of time you spent with him you never forgot his smile and his sense of humor. He especially bonded with the elderly, he would often say, when you sit with them you gain wisdom. His love of family is what we will remember the most. He was so proud of his nephew, Allen Iverson, when he was drafted in the NBA. He loved being an 'Iverson,' despite the odds against them he would say, 'Iversons will survive.' He saw great things for his family and we intend to follow his lead and pursue our dreams until we leave this world. Don't cry for 'I.' He loved, he lived and now he lives! Ronald is survived by 10 brother/brothers-in-law, Jimmy Iverson, Eddie Iverson (North Carolina), Curtis Iverson, Lawrence Iverson (Connecticut), Henry Simon, Gregory Pittman, Lawson Breedlove, Daniel Breedlove, Joseph Breedlove and Martin Dougherty (Virginia); five sisters-in-law, Ann Iverson (North Carolina), Trudy Stephens (Pennsylvania), Beverly Simon, Angela Breedlove and Keisha Breedlove (Virginia). Additional family, Ann Iverson (Juicy), Stevie Iverson (Virginia), Jessie Mae Iverson (Lil' Bit), Gregory Iverson (Pennsylvania), and a whole host of other loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Viewing will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Monday, April 26, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial park.
