William Randolph Obituary

YORKTOWN, VA - Lt. Col. William Mann Randolph, III, 83, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Bill was born at Fort Riley, Kansas to Col. Thomas and Augusta Randolph of Charlottesville, Virginia. He was a 1956 graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and received a Masters in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University in 1961. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Teresa; children Helen Randolph (Carl Canavan) of Arlington, VA, Elizabeth Randolph of Yorktown, VA, Carolina Randolph Steup (Matthias Steup) of Longmont, CO, Thomas Randolph (Susan Randolph) of Reading, PA, and six grandchildren. For 22 years a decorated officer in the United States Army, Bill's service took him and his family to many locations in the US and Europe. In 1973 he was posted to Fort Monroe, Virginia, where he retired in 1978. Remaining in the area, Bill was a volunteer for USA Swimming for over 30 years. He was a former member and usher at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hampton, VA. More recently, he attended and served as head usher at Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown, VA, where his warm smile will be missed. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday April 11, 2017 at Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown, VA. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception in the church parish hall. Burial, with full military honors, will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Monticello outside Charlottesville, VA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association - www.alz.org Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, VA.
