William Woolard Obituary

HAMPTON - William Robert 'Buddy' Woolard, 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, after a long battle with Asbestosis. A native of North Carolina, he was a longtime Hampton resident where he was a sheet metal worker with the Newport News Shipyard. Preceded in death by his son, William R. Woolard Jr., survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Hall Woolard; his mother, Carrie E. Woolard of Hampton; his sons, Richard Earl 'Dickie' Van Dyke of Hampton and Christopher 'Dale' Van Dyke and his wife, Sue, of Gloucester Point; his daughters, Pattie Elizabeth Windham of Newport News and Patricia Mae Woolard and her fiancé, Robert Weirich Jr., and Sherry Lynn Sprouse and her husband, Mike, all of Hampton; his grandchildren, Amy, Chris, Kim, EJ, Nickie, Buddy and Ashley; and his great-granddaughter, Jade. He will also be missed by several uncles, nieces, nephews and many, many friends. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Woodard, you were like a father to me, I was friends with Billy when he passed away. You would visit me in Smithfield, you came one day and my husband answered the door, you said who are you? He said Cheryl´s husband, you said "you have a good woman there", I wish you would have still came by, I always enjoyed your conversation and always loved you. Rest easy Mr. Woolard, tell Billy hi for me.
