Benjamin Hornstein Obituary

Benjamin Allen Hornstein, 19, died January 30, 2006, in Tennessee, as the result of a car accident while traveling to the University of Oregon.

Ben graduated from Norfolk Collegiate in 2004. He was a Latin scholar and received many awards for academic achievement in all areas of study. He went to the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. He was excited about returning there. A celebration of his life was held by his friends there Monday night. There were tears all over campus.

Emails are coming in from his friends in Oregon. We would like to quote one: "Ben will live on in Eugene, Oregon forever. I thought to myself during the celebration...If I had made an impression on this many people the way Ben did in one short year, then I would know that my life was lived with no regrets and with much integrity."

Mr. Hornstein is survived by his parents Donald and Beverly Hornstein of Norfolk; his sisters Amanda Tatum, Rachel Hornstein, and Samantha Hornstein all of Norfolk; and his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. L. Randolph Amiss of Charlotesville, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Bert and Estelle Hornstein.

Funeral services were held in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Thursday, February 2, 2006, at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to B'nai Israel Congregation, Chabad House of Tidewater, or Norfolk Collegiate School or to the University of Oregon in Eugene. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com.
