Daniel Garlick Obituary

Daniel Jones Garlick

July 10, 1944 - December 23, 2020

Daniel Jones Garlick, 76, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away on December 23, 2020, at UVa Medical Center, from complications of a stroke.

Daniel is survived by his brother, Stevens Garlick and wife, Nancy; sister, Susan Paslov of Carson City, Nevada; sister, Mary St. George and her spouse, Alan, of Colares, Sintra, Portugal, a World Heritage site, and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Born on July 10, 1944, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Daniel was the son of David L. Garlick and Marjorie J. Garlick, who predeceased him.

Daniel graduated from Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wisconsin in 1964 and earned the coveted Eagle Scout Challenge, the most prestigious award in scouting, in 1980. In 2000 he moved to Charlottesville to be near his brother, Stevens, and sister-in-law, Nancy Garlick. In Charlottesville he resided at Rosewood Village for ten years and another decade at Our Lady of Peace.

Dan enjoyed visiting his family and taking trips with his brother to the Pacific Northwest, the Eastern Shore of Virginia and in 2018, to Boulder Junction, Wisconsin, where the brothers took part in the 100th anniversary of the founding of Camp Manitowish, in the "north woods lake country" of Wisconsin. Dan loved being anywhere near the water and was an avid swimmer. Other travel highlights included boating on Lake Tahoe, cruising Alaska's Inside Passage and driving along the Pacific Ocean shore in California and Oregon. In 1978 the Garlick extended family took a boating trip through the canals of England and Wales. As a child, Dan enjoyed many family trips throughout the United States and Europe.

During his twenty happy years in Charlottesville, Dan worked for Worksource for 17 years. He especially enjoyed "Fridays After Five" on the Downtown Mall and lunches at Timberlakes and The Nook. He also prized celebratory dinners at the quaint Lafayette Hotel in Stanardsville.

Special thanks to helpful friends, Nina Frantzen and Donna Triplett, in Milwaukee, and in Charlottesville, Dr. Jonathan Evans, Virginia Tahboub and her staff at Rosewood Village, Sara Warden and her staff at Our Lady of Peace and the several dedicated counselors at Parks and Recreation that made Dan's leisure hours so stimulating: Sarah Blech, April Baber, and Caitlin Marcotte deserve special mention.

Services will be private at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
