David Bonds Obituary

David Culver Bonds, 84, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on January 22, 2023 . Born November 9, 1938, in Fort Worth, Texas, David was the son of Mignon Fegnolio and Louie Bonds.

Predeceased by his first wife, Charlotte P. Bonds, David is survived by his second wife, Anita Anderson Bonds, and was the proud father of David P. Bonds and William C. Bonds (deceased).

A unique individual with a lifelong passion for learning and scholastic pursuits, he seemed to be a limitless fountain of information. Among his favorite topics were history, theology, and rhetoric. Having attended Yokohama High School while his family was stationed in Japan during the occupation in the early 1950's, he graduated from Falls Church High School in 1956 and later earned a degree in American History from Columbia University. His final graduate studies took place at the University of Virginia where he met his first wife in line for registration. He was a connoisseur of chess, fine dining, and classical music, with a particular fondness for the operas of Mozart, the piano etudes of Chopin, and the organ works of Bach. A person of strong faith, David's Christian beliefs were a central aspect of his life as evidenced by his steadfast participation in preserving traditional Christian worship in the Charlottesville area.

David was renowned for his gregarious personality, his clever sense of humor, and his unwavering interest in others. Always eager to hear people's stories, family histories, and thoughts, he had a talent for making others feel at ease in his presence. With an extensive vocabulary and a wealth of ideas, David was a congenial conversationalist and engaging raconteur.

A memorial service in honor of David's life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 2 p.m. at St. David's Anglican Church, 70 Colthurst Dr, Charlottesville, Va., with refreshments to follow. He will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace in the eternal grace of God, surrounded by the beauty of the classical music he so cherished.
