Elizabeth LeVaca Obituary

Elizabeth LeVaca

February 23, 1944 - June 26, 2024

Elizabeth Bell LeVaca, born February 23, 1944, in New York, NY, died peacefully at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville VA with her family surrounding her on June 26, 2024. Elizabeth graduated from the Epiphany School and Holy Cross Academy in New York City. She worked at the Ellsworth Studios in Bethesda MD as a bookkeeper until she graduated from the Catholic University of America with a BS in nursing in 1979. She first worked at the Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington DC, then worked with several private doctors in DC, and volunteered with hospice until she retired in 1997.

She married Joseph LeVaca in 1991, whom she first met in elementary school. They reconnected thirty years later. After living together in Washington DC, they retired in Charlottesville VA. With retirement, she devoted much of her time towards volunteering and supporting AIDS/HIV Services Group of Charlottesville. She also was an active board member of the Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation, the College of New Rochelle, and the Paramount Theater of Charlottesville.

Her love for her grandchildren was endless, as Elizabeth's favorite memories always included them. From their first sleepovers, recitals, sports events, to their graduations, she never wanted to miss a moment. She was a devoted and generous friend, a musical and live theater enthusiast, and the keeper of birthdays for all. Her constant kindness will be missed.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, Ralph H. Bell and Mary Fischer Bell, and her stepson, Kevin LeVaca. She is survived by her sisters, Kate Bell (brothers in-law Tom Blackburn and Jack Wallace) and Roberta Bell Williamson, her son, Christopher Fuhrman (Jean), her daughter, Jennifer LaPlume (Daniel), daughter in law, Manuela LeVaca (Troy), and Terrence Williams (Tina), grandchildren Tyler, Emma, Peyton, Terrence Christopher, William, Mathew, Amanda, Natalie, nieces, Erin and Sally, nephews Carl, John, and Michael.

Her family and friends will have a memorial service and celebration of her life which will be announced later. Donations in her memory can be sent to: The Shelter for Help in Emergency, 1415 Sachem Pl, Charlottesville VA 22901, or St. Jude's Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude's Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.

Chris. So sorry for your loss. Your mother was an amazing person who treated all of your friends like they were her kids. Her love for her family was second to none. Her infectious laughter will be missed by everyone.

So sad to read this, Elizabeth and Joe were always two of our favorites! We loved our time with her planning Joe´s celebration of life not too long ago at Glenmore. Our hearts are broken! We love you so much and you will be greatly missed! Randy and Joey ( owners of Floral Images)

Liz was a very generous and good friend. She missed the love of her life, Joe.
While we will really miss Liz, her smile, and her friendship, we are happy for her that she is now in peace and with Joe again.
