John Falls Obituary

John Harvey "Johnnie" Falls, 83, of Afton passed away on November 9, 2023 at his residence after a brief decline in health. Over the last few weeks, he remained resilient even though his body was failing.

He was born January 16, 1940 in Monroe, VA to the late J.W. Falls and Martha Dodd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Falls (2007) and his youngest daughter, Susan Falls Pleasants (2021).

John Harvey is survived by his daughter, Darlene Falls Mawyer and her husband, Randy; beloved granddaughter, Melandy Mawyer Absher and her husband, Roby; the joys of his life, great-granddaughters, Virginia Rae Absher and Kathryn Louise Absher. He is also survived by a son, Palmer "Punkin" Putnam and his sons, Keith, Taylor, and Conner. In addition, his sister, Martha Thorn survives him.

Johnnie, as many called him, was the #1 fan of the New York Yankees, a lifelong livestock dealer and cattle farmer. He started at an early age following in his father's footsteps. He traveled the livestock market circuit buying and selling livestock for many years. He and his family own and previously operated Charlottesville Livestock Market for over 40 years. After "retiring" from traveling the livestock market circuit, he sold hay and straw at the family property alongside Route 151 until the day he passed thanks to his devoted friend and helper, Page Woody.

John Harvey will be remembered forever by his family as being the best father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was always there with love, guidance, and support regardless of circumstances. He leaves behind a huge void in this family and will surely be missed…cowgirls don't cry Daddy but their hearts surely break.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Rodes United Methodist Church Cemetery, 286 Avon Road, Afton with Rev. John Campbell officiating. All who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.

There will be no formal viewing or visitation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
