Judith Yager Obituary

Judith Lee Yager, 78, of Somerset, Va., passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at UVA Medical Center.

She was born on September 28, 1943, to the late Robert Edward Lee and Helen Elizabeth Donaghy Lee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Michael Yager, III.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Fray Yager and wife, Aga, of Louisa, and William Spencer Yager and wife, Lisa, of Somerset; daughters, Laura Lee Carter and husband, Sullivan, of Orange, and Leslie Peyton Yager of Manassas; brother, Richard Bradshaw Lee and wife, Barbara, of Apex, N.C.; sister, Elizabeth "Bett" Lee Herndon of Orange; grandchildren, Brittney Elizabeth Yager, Carson Ann Yowell and husband, Zac, William Michael Yager IV, Alden Gray Carter, Aaron Tilghman Carter and Adam Shane Yager; and great-granddaughter, Lacie Ann Yowell.

Judith "Judy" was a graduate of Orange County High School and lived in Staunton, Virginia while attending beauty school. As a young family, Judy and Michael lived in Gouchland and then Crewe, Va before moving back to Somerset on the family farm. They raised their four children on the farm surrounded by many friends and a large extended family who enjoyed her delicious and bountiful table. Judy enjoyed square dancing, attending garden club and playing bridge. She started and ran a successful family business. She was happiest cooking and feeding people. Everyone loved her chicken puffs, spice cakes, crab dip, pound cake and cheesecakes.

A celebration of life will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022, at her home.
