Bertha Mae Meadows, 63, of Troy, Va. passed away on May 17, 2018, at her home following a long illness. She was born on July 3, 1954, in Afton, Va. to the late Lewis Marshall and Nancy Thacker Wright. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Russell Meadows. Bertha grew up in Afton, Va. and graduated Albemarle High School. She made her home in Troy, where she enjoyed her grandchildren and yardwork. After high school, Bertha pursued a career with the insurance industry. She retired after 30 years of service from Craddock Insurance, having served as the company Vice President and Office Manager. She was known by many in the Charlottesville area and cherished the many people that she served. She held a heartfelt extended-family bond with the Craddock Family. Bertha is survived by her daughter, Tanya and John Wise, of Troy; a stepdaughter, Alene Meadows and family of Lyndhurst, Va.; and two stepsons, Ben Meadows and family of Schuyler, Va. and Doug Meadows and family of Long View, Texas. Notably, Bertha leaves behind five grandchildren, Kelsey, Kyle, Allison, Austin, and the oldest Alan, as caregiver, he held a very special place in her heart. The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donation be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont at www.hopva.org. Condolences may be made to the family at www.hillandwood.com
