Robert Hyde Obituary
The son of Dr. Theodore L. Hyde and Thelma Logan Hyde of The Dalles, Oregon, he leaves to mourn his wife, Martha; his children, Amy, Rebecca, Casey and Brennan; his grandsons, Maxwell and one-month-old Jorge; his sisters, Nancy Anderson of San Francisco and Sally Thomas of Charlottesville; and a world of former patients, friends and family.
Dr. Hyde rafted most of the rivers of the West, ran 64 marathons and several ultra-marathons, set a high school track record never yet broken, flew a Cessna 210 everywhere, served several terms on the school board, delivered more than 2500 babies in his family practice, ran a state prison hospital and until his death a nursing home medical center, and was far too in love with life to die.

To the family and friends of Dr. Hyde. I never met him, however, he was my mother's doctor at Meadowood for years (She, Ruth Riordan, was one of the first residents at the facility in 1990 and passed away in March of 2005). My thoughts are with you.

I was very saddened to hear of Dr. Hyde's passing. I worked with him at the Lower Lake Clinic for several years and he was always a very gracious teacher and patient listener to all who knew him. My prayers are with you Martha and your family. Dr. Hyde will be missed dearly.

Dearest Hyde Family; I am so deeply sorry for your loss. He was a great man and friend of mine. I worked with him at Meadowood Nursing Center....he was the best part of that place. After my job loss there he was a great advocate for me....I saw him as another Father to me...he made me laugh, and his intelligence was grand....I always had a question for him and even though he was in deep thought, he would stop, look at me and say "Well Heather I'll tell you......." I am sorry to hear of your loss. I worked for Dr. Hyde for a few years at the Lower Lake clinic. He also was my parents as well as my own doctor. He was a wonderful man who will be missed.

Dear Martha:
It's been a long time since I worked with Bob at the Clinic, but he will be remembered for being kind, patient, respectful and caring. He really made you feel as if you had his full attention when you were with him for any reason. He will be remembered fondly. I am so sorry for your loss.

Kind,caring, loving, inquisitive are but just a few of the words to describe this wonderful man we called our friend. Dr. Hyde was dedicated to his family, his friends and to his patients.

Martha & family, My sincerest thoughts & prayers go out to your entire family. Dr. Hyde was one of the most caring & compassionate persons I had the pleasure of knowing & working with. He was also a wonderful teacher. He always took the time to explain things in a way you could understand. His passing is a great loss to all.

I am so sorry for your loss Marta, Casey and family. It is with fond memories that I will always think of Bob. Although I only saw Bob during Casey's high school sports days and later traveling through Italy I always felt that Bob really loved life and loved listening to others and was genuine in his caring about people. It was a priveledge to spend the times I got to chatting with Bob about sports, travel or whatever. God Bless you all during this difficult time.

I was sorry to read of the death of Dr. Hyde. As a fellow black widow bite victim, I feel a particular affinity. And I must confess that I am a little stunned to learn that this spider could do such tragic damage. These spiders are really common in Central Virginia, and I'm shocked to learn that they could rob friends and family of such an active and engaged man.
