Jan 31, 1948 - Oct 27, 2025
Dennis Ormand McMullen was born on January 31, 1948, to Harley and Agnes McMullen. He was raised with his two older brothers and younger sister in Seattle, WA, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966. He attended Stanford University, where he earned a BA in Music, sang in the prestigious a cappella chorus, the Mendicants, lettered in Soccer, was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and attended Stanford-in-Austria.
After graduating, Dennis was the Assistant to the Directors at the Stanford-in-Austria program, where he met a student, the love of his life, Cindy Duffy. They married, had three beautiful, talented daughters, and shared a great life.
Dennis attended Gonzaga Law School, graduating in 1978. He convinced Cindy to follow him, and she graduated in 1979. For more than 40 years, they practiced law together in the Spokane Valley.
Dennis was a Renaissance man. A skilled DIY craftsman, he remodeled most of the family home and yard. He shared his love of hunting and the outdoors with his daughters and sons-in-law. He was a Girl Scout Leader for his daughters' troops and at summer day camps, a Venture Crew Leader and Adult Scouter; a member of Spokane Valley Sunrise Rotary; a Bloomsday Perennial; a member and twice President of the Barbershop Chorus Pages of Harmony, now the Lilac City Voices; and a wine maker. He and Cindy loved to travel, both in the USA and abroad.
The most important thing in Dennis' life was his family. He deeply loved and cherished Cindy, supporting her in all her endeavors, and was tremendously proud of his daughters and their families.
Above all, Dennis was a happy soul who lived his life in service to others. One friend called him a "gentle man who made others feel welcome."
Dennis is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cindy; and their daughters' families: the Kays – Amy, Tom, Callum and Declan; the Bohans – Carrie and John; and the Bauers – Suzi, Jeff, Hazel, Tilda and Sam; his older brother, Michael and his children and grandchildren; and the children and grandchildren of his deceased brother, Patrick, and deceased sister, Kathleen.

I first me Dennis in 1980. I was a brand new lawyer and tried my first case with. I recall that he was kind and professional to me. I was scared and he made the trial less fearful. I spent most of my career serving as a district court judge and we was in my court many times. He was a very good lawyer. He loved his clients. Cindy and his children were the center of his live and the source of his joy. Rick White

Dear Cindy
I'm so sorry to learn of Dennis's death. I was so hoping he would be able to overcome the medical challenges and continue to be here with his loved ones and friends. My heart is with you and your family as you go through this horrible sad time. I'm remembering all the good times we had together as we enjoyed the trips as school board directors and the family members that accompanied us. Take care of yourself, Cindy. Your friend, Kay
