William Stott Obituary

William C. Stott Jr. of Charlottesville, Va., passed away in his home at Martha Jefferson House, Charlottesville, Va., on September 13, 2022, surrounded by family after suffering a stroke two weeks prior.

William was born in 1932, to William and Hazel (Hawley) Stott in Wilson, N.C. William attended Lane HS in Charlottesville and The University of Virginia, graduating in 1954. He joined the Army and served in Korea. Returning home, he graduated from UVA Law School in 1959.

After law school William took a job with Virginia National Bank starting a nearly 30-year career in banking ending as President of Colonial American National Bank, after which he returned to law until retiring gradually but fully in 2010.

William was married to Jerry Morgan in 1966. Jerry passed away in 2014.

William leaves behind four children, David Stott and his wife, Emily, of Staunton, Va., William G. Stott of Spotsylvania, Va., Debra Craine and her husband, Carl, of New Orleans, La., and Lisa Funderburk of Rock Hill, S.C. William is also survived by his sister, Gerry Callaghan; a beloved niece, Candace; and a nephew, David.

Anyone who knew William or Bill or Billy as he was called will remember his ready smile, dry sense of humor and inability to suffer fools gladly.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations to Martha Jefferson House, 1600 Gordon Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903 be considered. There will be a celebration of life party and details are not fianlized.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
