Bernice A. Smith

AGE: 83 • Milford, PA

Bernice A. Smith, 83, died on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Milford Senior Care in Milford, PA. She was born in Morristown on October 20, 1928, a daughter of the late William E. and Anna Mae Sutton Blazure. She had resided in Bedminster, Far Hills and in Peapack for 44 years moving to Milford, PA 6 years ago. Mrs. Smith was a secretary employed by Dr. Anthony Cifelli in Morris Plains for 10 years retiring in 1994. She was previously employed as the cafeteria manager for the Peapack-Gladstone Elementary School for about 12 years until it closed. Early in life, she worked at Prudential Insurance Company in Newark for 9 years. Bernice was a member and former president of the Peapack-Gladstone Womens Club and the Happy Rockers Senior Citizens Group of Peapack-Gladstone. She served as president of the resident council at Milford Senior Care until her death.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence "Bud" E. Smith, who died in 2002. Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Tracy A. Mady and her husband, Nicholas J., Sr. of Dingmans Ferry, PA; a son, Mark E. Smith and his wife, Tammy of Jasper, GA; 7 grandchildren, David S. Post, Lynne C. Post, Nicholas J. Mady, Jr., Brian J. Mady and his wife Cortney, Alexander D. Smith, Clay Camp and Dylan Jones and 3 great grandchildren, Hunter J., Julianna C. Post and Hayley N. Mady.

Funeral service will be at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Wednesday, December 7 at 11:00am. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to "The Residents Activity Fund" at Milford Senior Care, 264 Route 6 & 209, Milford, PA 18337 or the Deborah Hospital Foundation, 20 Pine Mill Road, Browns Mills, NJ 08015.
