Jenny Berntsen Obituary
Rockaway Township - Jenny H. Berntsen (Hjelmeland) passed away on February 2, 2019, at the age of 88.
Born in Leirvik, Norway she had lived in Brooklyn, NY then moved to Rockaway Twp., NJ where she lived for 60 years before moving to Whippany, NJ in 2016.
Jenny loved to garden and sing the choir, and was very instrumental along with her husband Fred in the building of both Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and the Nor Bu Lodge in Lake Telemark. They were also one of the first driver's for Meals on Wheels in the area. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great mother and sister.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Frithjof "Fred" Berntsen in 2016, and by her daughter in-law Julie Berntsen.
Jenny is survived by her sons Glenn Berntsen of Lebanon, NJ, Lloyd and his wife Lisa Berntsen of Newport, RI, and Scott and his wife Mary of Steamboat Springs, Co. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rachel, Tyler, Alexandra, Jenny, Andrew, Lars, and James, and her great grandchildren Colton, Hunter and Julia as well as her siblings Berger, Bjerg and Ragnel.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 5, 2019, from 3:00 - 7:00PM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834 www.normandean.com. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday at 9:00AM at the funeral home and then going to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for a 10:00AM Service. Interment will follow at Marcella Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Interfaith Food Pantry 2 Executive Dr. Morris Plains, NJ 07950

Remembering Jenny. She was one of the first people I met at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Rockaway, NJ. She & family were gracious to me and invited me to Sunday meals...what a treat. "Eternal rest grant her O Lord, and let perpetual light shine on her."
